my experience: university year 1 - FRESHERS

So this is my second post in the series of my experience of university in year 1! I've broke this down into a series of posts so that it isn't one huge long post, keeping it short and snappy so that if there is just one specific thing about the first year of university that you want to know about you can just read that rather than scroll through searching for it.

This is all about freshers. What is freshers you say? Freshers is basically one or two weeks of getting drunk EVERY NIGHT. No, you don't have to go every night but it is a great way of getting to meet people and begin to build your new social life. It's also a great way of checking out the nightlife in your area. I remember before I came to York St Johns.. I got told there was only one club, ONE!! I mean, coming from Newcastle I thought that was atrocious. But, I was wrong, there are several! All to cater for different tastes in music and the different styles of 'nights out' that people have, from cocktail bars, to quaint pubs to your full on night club hitting you up with chart music & dance favourites.

My freshers consisted of different themed nights out. One of the first ones was 'Where's Wally' (original I know). It was really good fun as the girls in my flat and me went out as a group. Cheap drinks and a good little boogie.. along with the fun of literally looking like a wally. So yeah, these themed nights go on for a week or two depending on your uni, ours ranged from school disco to UV to PJ's and more! I have to say though, pace yourself. Too much drink is never good.

What else can I say about freshers?! There isn't really much more to say. It's all about socialising, getting drunk and having fun. It was fun, but extremely exhausting. I can barely ever eat when I'm hungover, so in the two weeks of freshers that I endured, I completely lost my appetite :( But all in all it was a good experience and loads of memories (except the painful hangovers)

A couple of photos from my themed nights out over freshers...

Basically, just go out and enjoy yourself!
